Stop and Stair Railings is here to help
I'm Chris, the founder of Stop and Stair Railings. I started over 10 years ago in the commercial railing industry, but after helping a friend with a project, I spotted a need for high-quality glass railings in the residential market.
Glass railing should be an investment you never have to worry about again in your lifetime, but it can only be that if it's done right. With fully welded components, quality materials, and a company dedicated to the details, you can get the high standards commercial projects have been demanding, right in your own home.
Create a unique look with a variety of styles, finishes, and infill options
Make your space feel larger and brighter with transparent railings
Provide a safe and reliable barrier for balconies, decks, and stairs
Steps to Getting Your New Railing
Start Your Consultation
Provide any photos, measurements, and location of the project
Provide any ideas on what you’re looking for or which options you’d like to explore
2. Approval Process
After the details are sorted you’ll usually receive an estimate within 1-2 days
Once the estimate is approved it’s time for final measurements. If the project is outside of the local area we’ll usually collect an initial payment at this point.
3. Watch Your New Rail Come to Life
Next we order the materials and craft your project, usually 2-4 weeks, depending on complexity and size
After everything is complete, you’ll get information on how long it should take to install and we’ll schedule a time that works best for you

FAQ
-
With the level of customization options we provide, it’s hard to put a general tag on it but the industry average is around $350 per foot and our most popular systems tend to match or beat others in pricing when accounting for quality.
-
Stronger than you’d think, with people’s safety in mind, so many public areas wouldn’t use them otherwise. Tempered glass is up to 7 times stronger than normal glass and can take forces in excess of 20,000 PSI.
The edges of glass panels can be susceptible to hard hits, which is why we usually recommend some form of top rail but the faces of the panels are incredibly strong and I’ve personally seen them take very heavy hits without breaking. If you’re still concerned, consider laminated glass, it still holds in place if it somehow happens to break. -
No one’s positive, but it’s a long time. Glass is estimated to last 4000 years before fully breaking down and stainless steel around 100 years or more when maintained. Just look at the Chrysler Building’s original stainless steel from almost a century ago. Needless to say, for household use, it’ll far outlive us.
-
One of people’s biggest concerns is always maintenance but they’re always surprised afterwards. Stainless steel is as simple as running a rag with mild soap over it, easily done in a minute or two. Glass is as easy as a soft wet rag across the face of it. If it’s exposed to the elements, children, or pets then glass cleaner can help expedite the process but you’re still looking at 30-60 seconds a panel at whatever frequency you’d like it cleaned. Even better is that almost everything comes off pretty easy, from mud to markers.
-
As customizable as you need it to be. As long as it meets building code, there’s a good chance it can be done. For glass, you can get different colors, opacity, systems, and heights. For the metal, we work with any non ferrous metal, any profile and many different colors of powder coat paint.
-
As much as everyone likes to ask this question, there are unfortunately too many variables to give a blanket estimate and some systems can vary by large amounts. Once we know the scope of a project, we’ll always set expectations for how long you can expect it to take.
